On Thursday April 9th, 2016 on the 1 year anniversary of LAPD Valley Traffic Division Officer Chris Cortijo’s death, Paul Krekorian and Nury Martinez from the Los Angeles City Council, dedicated the intersection of Van Nuys Blvd. and Arminta St. as Chris Cortijo Square.  This was an honor well bestowed for an officer who was passionate and dedicated to searching for and arresting DUI drivers.  Chris was twice honored as Motor Officer of the Year for his outstanding work culminating in a career of over 3,000 DUI driver arrests.  Unfortunately Chris was rear ended while sitting on his LAPD motorcycle at a stop light by a DUI driver just 3 days after receiving his 2nd Motor Officer of the Year award.  Chris passed away just 4 days later on April 9th.
